Over 10 Armenian soldiers taken captive by Azerbaijan in latest attack
More than 10 Armenian servicemen were taken captive by Azerbaijani forces during the September 13-14 Azerbaijani attack, the spokesperson of the Armenian representation to the ECHR, Hasmik Samvelyan, told Armenpress on Saturday.
“The picture is obscure, it could change. I can’t provide any other information regarding identified captives,” the spokeswoman said.
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has requested Azerbaijan to provide information by September 22 about the one identified (as of September 13) Armenian captive and the remaining unidentified captives seen in video footage.
She also said that Armenia submitted an application to the International Court of Justice over the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan, adding the letter would be officially published on September 19.
“The grounds for applying to the International Court of Justice are the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan,” Samvelyan said.
Azerbaijani forces began a massive attack against Armenia just after midnight on Tuesday, using combat drones, artillery and large-caliber firearms to shell both Armenian military positions and civilian infrastructure.
135 Armenian troops were killed in Azerbaijani attacks in two days.
The Defense Ministry said late on Wednesday that the hostilities stopped at 8pm local time. Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council Armen Grigoryan announced shortly after midnight that Yerevan and Baku had agreed a ceasefire brokered by the international community.
