German diplomat 'shocked' by aftermath of Azerbaijani shelling in Armenian resort town
New Chargé d’Affaires of the German Embassy in Armenia, Erik Tintrup, is “shocked” by the scenes of destruction caused by Azerbaijani shelling in Jermuk, a resort town in Armenia’s Vayots Dzor Province.
Tintrup was among the 50 foreign diplomats who were invited to Jermuk for a press briefing by the Armenian Defense and Foreign Ministries on Friday two days the Azerbaijani attack.
“Jermuk is a beautiful and peaceful resort town surrounded by beautiful nature. German tourists were also here on Tuesday. It is almost a miracle that no one from the residents was killed because artillery strikes targeted restaurants and the ropeway located several kilometers from the border, just a few hundred meters from residential buildings and hotels full of tourists,” Tintrup said after the visit.
A German tourist’s camera captured the explosions from her room, as they were very close to her hotel. "I am deeply worried. We sympathize with the Armenian people," the diplomat said.
