FM: Azerbaijan must withdraw troops from Armenia's sovereign territory
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met in New York late on Monday for talks hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
In the course of the meeting, Ararat Mirzoyan underscored that the Azerbaijani troops must be withdrawn from the sovereign territory of Armenia and the use of force or the threat of force is unacceptable, calling for international mechanisms to prevent further escalations, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Armenian foreign minister highlighted the importance of immediate resolution of humanitarian issues, including the repatriation of prisoners of war.
“Minister Mirzoyan reaffirmed the readiness of the Armenian side to engage in a process of comprehensive normalization of relations,” reads the statement.
