Georgia ready to mediate between Armenia and Azerbaijan, FM says
Georgia stands ready to mediate the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and offers Tbilisi as a platform for talks between the two countries, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili told reporters on Tuesday.
The Georgian FM is in New York as part of an official delegation led by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, TASS reported.
“If it is necessary for our country to be involved in the process as a mediator, we are always ready for it,” Georgian official said.
He added that Georgia has no precondition in this regard, adding Tbilisi seeks peace and stability in the region.
The minister recalled that due to Garibashvili’s efforts, Azerbaijan handed over 15 prisoners of war to Armenia in June 2021 in exchange for minefield maps. Also, a meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers was held in Tbilisi on July 16, 2022.
