Police forcefully detain parents of fallen soldiers in Yerevan military pantheon
Riot police deployed at Yerevan’s Yerablur Military Pantheon used force to detain the parents of fallen Armenian soldiers who wanted to prevent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and other officials from entering the military cemetery on the Independence Day.
The families of the soldiers killed in the 2020 Artsakh war had gathered at Yerablur since Wednesday midnight.
Tensions flared up after security officers used force against the fallen soldiers’ mothers. Afterwards, they began forcefully detaining the parents without giving any explanation.
Special police forces also pushed reporters and cameramen out of the area, obstructing their professional activities.
Panorama.am reached one of the detained mothers. She said that they were taken to the Nor Nork Police Department, while the fathers were taken to the Kentron Police Department.
The woman also said that she sustained an army injury as a result of the police violence.
