RPA deputy head reflects on Ter-Petrosyan's interview
Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Armen Ashotyan has weighed in on the statements of Armenia’s first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan made at an interview with the Public TV Company on Monday.
He gave the interview several days after discussing the security challenges facing Armenia with the former presidents of Armenia and Artsakh at a meeting hosted by Catholocos Karekin II.
“Levon Ter-Petrosyan made the following points:
• We do not consider it useful to partially publicize the discussions during the meeting of the presidents.
• The differences in the approaches and assessments of the three presidents were known and predictable even before the meeting, but it did not prevent the start of the process.
• The plight of the country requires a search for the most effective and consensual way out of the current situation.
• No unity can be formed with Nikol Pashinyan’s involvement, since, among other circumstances, even the first president himself doubts the credibility of the information conveyed by the latter.
• The shattering of the Armenian people's hopes and expectations from the meeting of the three presidents under the auspices of His Holiness because of some tough positions or unbridled ambitions would be unforgivable,” he wrote on Facebook.
