Pashinyan's party requests election recounts in two communities
Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party has requested election recounts in the communities of Charentsavan and Berd in Kotayk and Tavush Provinces.
The ruling party suffered setbacks in nearly half of the 18 communities across Armenia which elected local governments on Sunday.
“The proxies of the Civil Contract party have petitioned for a recount of votes in 19 polling stations,” Central Election Commission Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan told Panorama.am on Tuesday.
According to preliminary results reported by the Central Election Commission, Civil Contract received 5,571 votes in Charentsavan, losing to the United Community bloc led by Hakob Shahgaldyan that garnered 6,812 votes.
The ruling party was also defeated by the incumbent mayor’s bloc in Berd which got 5,685 votes.
