Fallen soldier's father slams police use of force in Yerablur
A group of parents of Armenian soldiers killed in the 2020 war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) as well as other people gathered at the Yerablur Military Pantheon to prevent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and other officials from laying flowers there on the second anniversary of the war marked on Tuesday September 27.
Vahe Sahakyan, the father of fallen soldier Zhora Sahakyan, told reporters that they arrived at the military ceremony late on Monday.
“We have repeatedly warned against the visits of the cabinet members, pro-government MPs and, especially, their leader Nikol Pashinyan [to Yerablur],” the man said.
He denounced the riot police for the use of force against the grief-stricken parents who gathered at Yerablur to disrupt a wreath-laying ceremony there on the 31st anniversary of Armenia’s independence marked on September 21.
“You all saw what happened to the parents on September 21. We all suffered injuries as the black and red beret special police forces removed us from Yerablur. They treated us the same way the Armenians were treated in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. First, they used force to detain men, then the women were taken away,” the man said.
