Pashinyan sacks fire safety watchdog chief
Nikol Pashinyan has signed a decree to dismiss Gegham Shahbazyan as Head of the Urban, Technical and Fire Safety Inspection Body.
In a public post on Facebook on Friday, Shahbazyan said he had submitted resignation and was no longer in charge of the government watchdog starting from September 29.
He expressed gratitude to the Armenian premier for entrusting him with the high and responsible post.
Shahbazyan assumed the office in July 2018.
His agency faced heavy criticism following the deadly blast in Yerevan’s Surmalu shopping center in August which killed 16 people and wounded 62 others.
