Avetik Chalabyan: No peace deal can 'save' Armenia with Pashinyan, Aliyev in power
Public figure and opposition activist Avetik Chalabyan has expressed outrage at the appalling video circulating on social media on Sunday that shows Azerbaijani troops executing several Armenian soldiers during last month’s aggression.
In a public post on Facebook on Monday, he dismissed the “peace agenda” promoted by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's administration, saying no peace treaty can “save” Armenia so long as the current rulers remain in power.
“Armenians and Azerbaijanis have never been friends, and living side by side for centuries, they have constantly been at odds. These conflicts have repeatedly blown up and escalated into all-out wars. However, what happened over the past 20 years since Ilham Aliyev came to power are beyond all boundaries. Aliyev has nurtured a whole generation of beastly barbarians in an effort to defeat Armenians, humiliate them and evict them from their homeland for good. All these inhuman terrorist acts are aimed at it,” Chalabyan wrote.
He denounced the claims that “peace with the enemy is possible if we meet their demands”, stressing Azerbaijan seeks the extermination of the Armenian people or their servile existence under its rule.
“Whoever is happy with this prospect, let them continue to believe in Pashinian and his promised future, while those who are still cautious and have instinct for self-preservation as well as the ability to analyze the chain of events of the last 4 years, should realize that only by militarizing our country and giving a strong counterattack to these barbaric beasts will it be possible to suppress their appetite and make them respect us and reckon with our human rights again,” he stated.
“Ilham Aliyev's Armenian partner, Nikol Pashinyan, is now in a big rush to sign a peace treaty with him as soon as possible to, as he puts it, save 29,800 square kilometers of territory. But no peace treaty can save Armenia if Pashinyan remains in power in Armenia and Aliyev in Azerbaijan.
“In this case, Azerbaijan will take every opportunity to devour Armenia piece by piece, as it has done before, starting with Jrakan and Hadrut, then Shushi, Karvachar, Berdzor, and now threatening Jermuk and Vardenis. As long as these two rule, each in his capital, the Armenian people will not have a single day of peace, Armenian soldiers will continue to be killed in Turkish and Israeli drone strikes, and our country's territory will gradually shrink, as it has been the case over the past four years,” Chalabyan charged.
“If we want to save our country, live freely, educate our children here and offer them prospects for a good future, we should get rid of these two "civilized" partners… Only then will it be possible to open up the prospect of peace for all peoples of the region,” the oppositionist added.
