CSTO may withdraw from Armenia, parliament speaker says
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) may decide to withdraw from Armenia, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters in the parliament, the speaker said the issues related to the CSTO as well as the mutual assistance treaty between Armenia and Russia would be discussed during his upcoming official visit to Moscow.
“I will discuss the issues related to the CSTO and the Treaty of Mutual Assistance between Armenia and Russia, within the framework of which Armenia applied to Russia but has not received any response to date. We have not received even a negative response,” Simonyan said.
Asked whether the time has come for Armenia to withdraw from the CSTO, the speaker said “it is highly possible that the CSTO will decide to withdraw from Armenia.”
“If this structure does not give a proper response, I am still stick to my opinion that we need to think over and sort things out, but at the same time, this is not a matter to take quick and drastic steps without understanding what to do next,” Simonyan said.
