Azerbaijan's demands will increase in near future, Armenian MP says
MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction has reacted to Azerbaijan’s main demands for a peace treaty with Armenia outlined by the Haykakan Zhamanak daily, a paper owned by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's family.
The demands include the so-called “corridor” through Armenia, Armenia’s recognition of the Azerbaijani sovereignty over Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and the disbanding of the Artsakh Defense Army.
"The demands that Azerbaijan makes to Armenia are nothing new. It’s a different matter that the Armenian authorities were attempting to link them to the “era of peace” in the period after the 2020 war,” Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
“Moreover, Azerbaijan’s demands obviously refer only to the current stage and will expand in the near future, further tightening the ring around Armenia and Artsakh.
“Both the domestic political and geopolitical situation is sending rather negative signals to our region, while Armenia is simply not ready to confront them.
“The problem is not so much resources or the impaired military balance, but rather the war-inciting authorities of Armenia
“It would be logical to speak about meaningful solutions to the current situation only after the removal of the current regime, since its rule poses a threat to Armenia and Artsakh,” the lawmaker said.
