Opposition MP slams Pashinyan's 'absurd' statements on Artsakh negotiation process
MP Aram Vardevanyan of the opposition Hayastan bloc took to Facebook on Wednesday to denounce Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s latest “absurd” statements on the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) negotiation process.
Speaking in the Armenian parliament, Pashinyan claimed that former President Robert Kocharyan’s cabinet had already recognized Nagorno-Karabakh as a part of Azerbaijan in 1999 after accepting the Madrid Principles as a basis for talks.
“The incumbent authorities once again renounced their commitment to protect the interests of Armenia and Artsakh, rejecting the Declaration of Independence,” Vardevanyan said.
He called Pashinyan’s comments on the Madrid Principles “absurd and utterly false”, saying no international law expert or professional diplomat would confirm or share them.
“Not even our enemies have interpreted the Madrid Principles in such a way, because it is simply impossible. The incumbent authorities make it clear that they are renouncing Artsakh and begging for peace from those who seek our annihilation, who execute and torture our helpless soldiers,” the deputy sad.
He reiterated the need for a regime change in Armenia as “a matter of urgency”.
