MP Tigran Abrahamyan of Armenia’s opposition Pativ Unem faction claims the demilitarization of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) sought by Baku would lead to the exodus of Armenians from Artsakh and its final surrender.

"Despite’s Azerbaijan constant demands for the disarmament of Artsakh and the Armenian authorities’ statements echoing them, Artsakh should not demilitarize. On the contrary, it should step up its defense capability and use its entire self-defense potential,” he wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

“Demilitarization of Artsakh implies the eviction of Armenians from Artsakh and, in short, its surrender [to Azerbaijan].

“And who is going to ensure the security of the Artsakh Armenians? Will the Armenian authorities, who have shrugged off responsibility and betrayed their compatriots, Azerbaijan or the “international guarantees” do it?

“If there is still a chance to solve the existential problem, it should be based on Artsakh's defense resources with its institutions and systems, which require serious rehabilitation and reforms,” the lawmaker said.
