Larger U.S. congressional delegation due in Armenia, political analyst says
A U.S. congressional delegation larger than that of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to visit Armenia in the near future, political analyst Suren Sargsyan says.
Pelosi led a congressional delegation to Armenia in mid-September, which made her the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit the country since its independence in 1991.
The delegation included co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Jackie Speier (D-CA) and caucus member Anna Eshoo (D-CA).
In a public post on Facebook on Thursday, Sargsyan said the new congressional delegation comprises seven members.
"Unlike Pelosi's delegation, these seven Congress members don’t have a pro-Armenian stance. Moreover, only one of them is a member of the Armenian Caucus,” he wrote.
The visit has been initiated by the House Democracy Partnership, a bipartisan commission of the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Generally, members of such a delegation visit Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia," the analyst said.
