Advance team of EU monitors arrives in Yerevan
The advance team of EU monitors is arriving in Yerevan today, Toivo Klaar, the European Union's special representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, said on social media.
“Today advance team of EU monitors arrives in Yerevan,” he tweeted.
“The 27 Member States have acted rapidly to respond to Armenia’s request. The aim of the EU deployment will be to monitor the situation and support Armenia-Azerbaijan stabilisation on the ground,” Klaar said.
The statement following the October 6 meeting of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the presence of European Council President Charles Michel and French President Emmanuel Macron in Prague said Armenia “agreed to facilitate a civilian EU mission alongside the border with Azerbaijan.”
Azerbaijan “agreed to cooperate with this mission as far as it is concerned,” the statement added.
