Fresh elections to be held in Syunik town
Sisian, a community in Armenia’s southern Syunik Province, will host snap municipal elections in a few months, the chair of the Country of Living (Aprelu Yerkir) party, Mane Tandilyan, said on social media on Friday.
None of the three political groups running in the elections won over 50% of the votes in the 25 September elections to form a local government and elect a new community head.
The ruling Civil Contract party garnered 34.6% of the votes, followed by the Labor and Justice alliance with 22.7% and the Country of Living party with 19.5%.
In a public post on Facebook, Tandilyan said the three forces had agreed to hold fresh elections after giving up their seats in the local city council.
“Therefore, we are preparing for new elections to be held in a few months under Article 69 of the law on local self-government,” she wrote.
