U.S. would welcome any country's engagement on Armenia, Azerbaijan – State Department
The United States would welcome any country’s efforts towards a peace settlement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, U.S. State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel told a press briefing on Friday.
His comments came in response to a question about whether the U.S. has concerns that Russia might jeopardize the talks between Yerevan and Baku mediated by the West.
Speaking at a briefing on Monday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the West and its mediation efforts on Nagorno-Karabakh, accusing it of trying to sideline Russia and steal its mediating efforts to solve the issue.
“If any country is eager to engage with us on Armenia and Azerbaijan and help us get to a peaceful resolution, we certainly would welcome that. But we have not seen any kind of effort from Russia as you might be referring to,” Patel said.
