The animated documentary Aurora’s Sunrise, produced with the financial support of the National Cinema Center of Armenia, has been nominated in the Best Animated Film category at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, competing with five other animated films.

The Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) is an international cultural initiative overseen by the Asia Pacific Screen Academy and headquartered in Australia with an estimated annual participation of more than 70 countries. It works with FIAPF, the International Federation of Film Producers Associations, and one of its special awards is Cultural Diversity Award under the patronage of UNESCO. APSA is rated as one of the most prestigious awards in the region, the National Cinema Center reports.

Aurora’s Sunrise is also included in Best of Fests (best films of the festival) section of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).

A co-production of Armenia, Lithuania and Germany, the animated documentary by Inna Sahakyan tells the extraordinary story of Aurora Mardiganian, who survived the Armenian Genocide as a teenager, and later came to Hollywood where she starred in a 1919 silent film based on her account of the massacre.
