Opposition activist slams government-drafted decision on Armenian citizenship
Public figure and opposition activist Avetik Chalabyan has denounced a government-drafted decision that would allow any foreign national investing at least $150,000 in the country’s economy to gain Armenian citizenship.
The draft document has been put up for debate on the official website of the Armenian Ministry of Justice.
“Apparently, this is a call for our enemies to get Armenian citizenship for cheap and legally create a strong army of voters who will be able to influence the formation of government in Armenia,” Chalabyan wrote on Facebook on Monday.
“I urge you all to resolutely say “No” to this draft decision, at the same time demanding restrictions for the citizens of all those countries that take hostile actions against the Republic of Armenia,” he said, sharing a link to the website.
