'Demand not hope': Twitter users respond to Pashinyan's statement on missing persons
Twitter users have reacted sharply to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement on Armenians missing from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Azerbaijan’s latest military aggression against Armenia.
“There are 777 missing Armenians from the 1st Nagorno-Karabakh war, 217 from the 2nd NK war, and 29 missing Armenians from the September 13 aggression of Azerbaijan against Armenia,” Pashinyan tweeted on Wednesday.
“We hope Azerbaijan will cooperate in clarifying the destiny of our compatriots,” he added.
In comments on the post, many users pointed to Azerbaijani war crimes against Armenian prisoners, stressing the need to put pressure on Azerbaijan, rather than “hope”.
“Demand not ‘hope’,” one of the users said.
“Hope is not a strategy, especially when you are dealing with criminal genocidal regimes. Quit tweeting and start rebuilding the army,” another wrote.
“’Hope’ is not enough, Armenia should request it and make it a precondition for further talks. Cooperating involves compromises from both sides. What compromises has Azerbaijan offered?” a Twitter user said.
“How do u sleep at night?” asked another.
“Bla-bla-bla You are the clown that sold Armenia. Let see what is left of it in 2/5/10 years. People will remember you, Pashinyan,” a user said.
