Armenian opposition MP slams arrest of young assistant judge
MP Aram Vardevanyan of the opposition Hayastan bloc took to Facebook on Saturday to denounce the arrest of a 22-year-old assistant judge ordered by a Yerevan court.
Earlier on Friday, lawyer Yerem Sargsyan said an assistant to imprisoned judge Arusyak Aleksanyan had also been placed under arrest. Arusyak Aleksanyan is accused of making an illegal decision in a trial presided over by her.
Vardevanyan says he has repeatedly spoken out against the arrest practice of the court as “absolutely unacceptable”.
“Imagine a judicial system were judges think that a 22-year-old girl, a lawyer by profession who is just an assistant judge and there is no evidence of a horrible crime committed by her, should be arrested,” he wrote.
