Armenian-Russian University head slams university merger plans
The head of the Armenian-Russian University criticized the planned merger of three universities in the Armenian capital as an “absolutely absurd” decision.
The Armenian government plans to merge the Brusov State University with the Armenian State Pedagogical University and the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport, a decision strongly opposed by Brusov students who have been protesting it for a week now.
“The decision on the merger of universities is absolutely absurd,” Rector Armen Darbinyan wrote on Facebook on Monday, adding the arguments offered by government officials are groundless.
“The most important component of the positioning of each university is the university history and its traditions. Moreover, they are national values, the wealth of all of us.
“Don't touch the people’s wealth, or else you won't be able to withstand the backlash,” he said.
