Any Armenian government should use all arms imports opportunities, MP says
MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction deplores plans to impose new sanctions on Iran in response to its intention to supply drones to some countries.
"After the 44-day war in 2020, during the violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia in May and November 2021, during the aggression against Artsakh in April and August 2022 and after Azerbaijan's attacks on Armenia in 2022, no one brought up the issue of sanctions against Azerbaijan or those supplying weapons to Baku, some only made statements,” he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
“And now, against the background of Iran’s intention to supply UAVs to one country or another, the international community is mulling new sanctions against Iran.
“The countries, which have turned a blind eye to Azerbaijan’s attacks on Artsakh and Armenia or just made statements, which ignore the arms supplies of various countries to Baku, pushing Azerbaijan to a new war, suddenly became concerned about the possible exports of Iranian weapons.
“Any Armenian government should use all its potential and opportunities to import arms from anywhere possible to achieve its defense goals and ensure the security of the country.
“Currently, Armenia is ruled by a regime constantly making concessions, but this chain of defeats must be broken and the restoration of Armenia and Artsakh's security system and the expansion of defense capabilities must start,” the deputy said.
