Pashinyan: We hope Russia will stand by its proposals
Armenia agreed to work on normalization of relations with Azerbaijan based on Russia's proposals in early September, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a tweet on Friday, in advance of his upcoming trip to Sochi for trilateral talks with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Armenia agreed in early September to work on the basic principles and parameters for establishing interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan presented by Russia, and is ready to confirm it in Sochi. We hope Russia will stand by its proposals," Pashinyan tweeted.
Speaking at an annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday, Putin said that Russia supports a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan as well as the delimitation and demarcation of their border.
“We support a peace settlement, as well as the delimitation of the border and a complete settlement of the border issue,” he said. "It is up to Armenia, the Armenian people and Armenian leadership to decide which option to choose. In any case, whatever option is chosen, we will only welcome it if it leads to peace.”
