Parliament speaker comments on possibility of direct dialogue between Artsakh, Azerbaijan
The recent meetings between the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders in Sochi and Prague largely focused on a peace deal between the two countries, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan told reporters on Wednesday.
"In Sochi, Prague and elsewhere, the Armenian authorities have announced that all discussions on Artsakh must be held by Artsakh officials and with their participation," the speaker said.
Asked whether a direct dialogue between Artsakh and Azerbaijan is possible, Simonyan replied: “Judging by the Azerbaijani rhetoric, they consider it negotiations with their own citizens. They say they will negotiate with their citizens.”
“However, such conversations and contacts do exist now. They are informal and concern trivial matters, but I insist that those contacts exist," he said.
