EU calls Armenian, Azerbaijani border commissions meeting in Brussels 'constructive'
Nabila Massrali, the EU spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, issued a statement on the third meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani border commissions held in Brussels on Thursday. The statement reads:
“The EU today hosted and opened in Brussels the 3rd meeting of Armenia's and Azerbaijan's border commissions.
This meeting follows agreements reached at the highest level between President of the European Council Charles Michel, President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during their trilateral Brussels meetings.
The EU commends the constructive atmosphere in which the meeting was conducted, and the willingness of the parties to continue working on addressing border-related issues, as well as to improve the security situation.”
Stefano Sannino, the secretary general of the EU’s External Action Service, greeted Armenian and Azeri Deputy Prime Ministers Mher Grigoryan and Shahin Mustafayev at the start of the meeting.
“The European Union urges the sides to take steps to improve security on the ground and to achieve progress on delimitation,” Sannino tweeted.
