Armenian Church Supreme Council meeting discusses security challenges
The Supreme Spiritual Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church held a session in Echmiadzin from November 1-4, led by His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin said on Saturday.
The participants of the meeting praised the fact that the renovation of the Mother See would be completed in the near future.
They discussed the difficult situation in Armenia and Artsakh following the recent Azerbaijani aggression, the security challenges facing the countries, issues related to their territorial integrity, sovereignty, the fair demand for Artsakh’s right to self-determination, the mission of the Church in the current situation, as well as the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Supreme Spiritual Council issued a statement following the four-day session.
During the meeting, it was reported that the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin had provided financial assistance to the families of 195 Armenian soldiers killed in the 2020 Artsakh war and the latest Azerbaijani attacks on Armenia.
Financial assistance will also be provided to the families of missing and captured servicemen as well as the wounded soldiers.
“$600,000 have been provided for the implementation of the program at the first stage,” the Mother See said.
The Supreme Council meeting also discussed matters related to the activity of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
