Former FM: Artsakh's right to self-determination should be at the core of conflict settlement
Former Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian claimed that during his tenure as foreign minister his agency’s approaches on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict differed from its current position.
His comments came at an opposition rally in support of Artsakh held in Yerevan’s central France Square on Saturday.
"During my tenure, the situation was different from the current one. Back then, the Foreign Ministry was on the right track, and today we should adhere to those principles. That is, the Artsakh people's right to self-determination should be at the core of the conflict settlement,” Aivazian explained.
Asked whether he demands the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the diplomat said that Saturday’s rally was meant to defend the interests of Armenia and Artsakh, thus he, too, decided to join it.
Aivazian stepped down as Armenian foreign minister last May.
