Construction of new Yerevan subway station unlikely to begin next year, mayor says
The construction of a new metro station in Yerevan's Ajapnyak district is unlikely to launch next year, Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan said on Monday.
Speaking at a news briefing in the parliament, the mayor said the designing of the new station would be completed in summer 2023.
“Afterwards, a tender for the subway station construction will be announced,” he noted, saying the project may attract funding from international organizations.
In Sargsyan’s words, the Yerevan Municipality has already allocated 800 million drams for the metro station designing.
“Overall, 1 billion 100 million drams are budgeted for the design works in 2023,” the mayor said.
The Ajapnyak metro station is to connect the administrative district with the Barekamutyun station, significantly reducing traffic congestion in the city.
The Yerevan Metro runs on a 13.4-kilometer line and currently serves ten active stations.
