Gymnastics world champion Artur Davtyan gets warm welcome home
Armenia’s newly-crowned gymnastics world champion Artur Davtyan and bronze medalist Harutyun Merdinyan received a warm welcome from their families, friends and a large group of fans at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan on Monday night.
Artur Davtyan's little daughter also came to the airport to welcome her father.
He claimed Armenia's first-ever gold medal at the 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, England on Sunday.
The 30-year-old earned a two-vault average of 15.050, besting reigning champion Carlos Yulo (14.950) to become the independent country's first world champion.
Harutyun Merdinyan took bronze in the men's pommel horse event.
