Armenia's Berd community installs female head
Astghik Hakobyan has been elected head of the Berd enlarged community in Armenia’s Tavush Province.
The newly-elected municipal council held its first meeting in attendance of all 21 councilors on Thursday, the local administration reported.
Hakobyan, who had been nominated by the Strong Community bloc, gained 11 votes. Her contenders, Vahram Sukiasyan from the ruling Civil Contract party and Artur Safaryan from the Decent Generation bloc, received 8 and 2 votes, respectively.
Astghik Hakobyan is expected to take the oath of office on Sunday.
