Armenian reporters, opposition figures targeted by hackers, expert says
A group of Armenian reporters, senior officials and famous opposition figures have been targeted by state-sponsored hackers, information security expert Samvel Martirosyan warns.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, he said Apple issued warnings to nearly ten victims of hacking last night.
The phones of two victims were checked and the Pegasus spyware was found on one of them. The second phone was not infected, but the owner had recently changed phones and the Apple warning likely concerned the old one, Martirosyan said.
"We can't say for sure what country or countries conducted the attacks. That is, we do not know whether the intelligence services of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey or all together are behind it. We know for a fact that this is state-backed hacking, as Pegasus is sold only to government agencies," the expert said.
Martirosyan urged all users to seek help from experts if they get warning letters from Apple.
