Armenia's Mariam Mkrtchyan wins European Youth Chess Championship
Armenian chess player Mariam Mkrtchyan has won gold at the 2022 European Youth Chess Championship in Antalya, Turkey, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports reported.
She defeated Trisha Kanyamarala of Ireland in the penultimate round of the U18 section on Sunday and was named European champion with 7.5 points ahead of time.
Armenia is represented by 30 chess players in six age categories - U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18.
Mkrtchyan, Armenia’s reigning champion, had won the World Youth Chess Championship in the U18 section earlier in September.
