Political analyst: Signing of so-called Armenian-Azeri 'peace deal' slowing down
The process aimed at the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and the signing of a so-called “peace treaty” between the countries has slowed down significantly, political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan says.
“The process may even be going backwards. The reasons are not still known, but it seems that the Russian mediation in the matter plays a key role. The complaints voiced by [Azerbaijani President] Aliyev two days ago testify to it,” he wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
Melik-Shahnazaryan claims the recent developments “bode both well and ill” for Armenia.
“The good news is that new capitulation by Armenia has been postponed and may even be stopped if we act wisely. The bad news is that the risk of renewed war is increasing again,” the analyst said.
He weighed in on the matter in an interview to the Past daily.
