Armenia records 19 cases of Lyme disease in nine months
Armenia confirmed 19 cases of Lyme disease over the first nine months of this year, according to the latest data from the Statistical Committee seen by Panorama.am.
All those diagnosed with the disease were children, including two kids aged 3-6 years.
Incidentally, only two Lyme disease cases were reported in the country in January-September 2021.
Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and rarely, Borrelia mayonii. It is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans.
