Lawyer: Armen Ashotyan challenges travel ban on him
Armenian opposition politician Armen Ashotyan has challenged a travel ban imposed on him by Armenia’s law enforcement authorities, his lawyer Tigran Atanesyan said on Monday.
Ashotyan, the deputy head of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), was banned from travelling to Lisbon to attend the EPP Political Assembly on the night of 16 November.
The politician was told at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport that the travel ban stemmed from his involvement as a defendant in a case. Ashotyan has denounced the decision as “politically motivated”.
“A crime report concerning the unlawful travel ban imposed on Armen Ashotyan on 16 November has today been filed to the attorney general on his behalf,” Atanesyan wrote on Facebook.
