Yerevan court postpones hearing in Kocharyan's trial for two weeks
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction on Tuesday postponed a hearing in the trial of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and opposition Hayastan bloc MP Armen Gevorgyan, who formerly served as deputy prime minister, for two weeks.
The decision was made due to the absence of Kocharyan’s attorneys, Hayk Alumyan and Hovhannes Khudoyan.
Alumyan had told the court that he was set to attend another hearing at the time, while Khudoyan was said to be sick.
Another defense lawyer, Aram Orbelyan, attends court hearings if he is to file motions to the court, the legal team said, citing the ex-president.
Presiding judge Anna Danibekyan decided to postpone the court hearing to 6 December.
Kocharyan is accused of receiving bribes from businesswoman Silva Hambardzumyan while in power. He denies any wrongdoing, calling the charges politically motivated.
