Pashinyan hopes for soonest implementation of agreements reached at CSTO summit
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed hope for the soonest implementation of the agreements reached at a summit of the Moscow-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Yerevan on Wednesday.
Pashinyan met separately with Russian President Vladimir Putin after the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in the Armenian capital.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Thursday, he said work on restoring a railway connecting Armenia to Russia and Iran through Azerbaijan may begin soon.
"We received certain signals during yesterday’s talks with the Russian president indicting that there is a realistic and serious opportunity for us to start work on restoring the Horadiz-Meghri-Ordubad-Sadarak-Yeraskh railroad," the premier said.
Pashinyan called the CSTO summit “positive” though Armenia refused to sign a draft declaration by the security bloc due to lack of a political assessment regarding the mid-September Azerbaijani aggression against the country.
“Although Armenia did not sign the CSTO declaration and the decision on the CSTO’s response to the September 13 escalation, I think the discussion was positive. I also positively assess the bilateral talks with Russia. I hope the agreements reached will be implemented soon as possible," he noted.
