Reviving Armenia party quits parliament
The Reviving Armenia party, which is part of the opposition Hayastan alliance, has announced its decision to leave the Armenian parliament.
In a statement on Tuesday, the party said the decision was made by its board on November 28. Three of the four deputies representing the party, Vahe Hakobyan, who is also its leader, Hripsime Stambulyan and Yelena Kirakosyan, have already resigned their parliament seats.
Zemfira Mirzoyeva, a Reviving Armenia member representing the Assyrian community of Armenia, will continue her activities, suspending her membership in the party.
The party members who were on its electoral list for the 2021 snap elections are free to take up the vacant seats, but will have to quit the Reviving Armenia in the event, it said.
The party underscored that the decision was the result of long discussions and a consensus among its board members.
“We have repeatedly announced that parliamentary activities and parliament seats are not an end in themselves for us. The party members have done their best to raise issues in the National Assembly and beyond and to look for ways out of the current situation. Nevertheless, we continue to believe that all the grounds which made us boycott the parliament sessions several months ago are still relevant," reads the statement.
