Armenian politician reacts to EU envoy's Istanbul Convention remark
Armenian politician Armen Ashotyan, deputy chair of the opposition Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), has reacted to the statement of Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin, head of the European Union’s delegation to Armenia, regarding the Istanbul Convention.
At a conference in Yerevan on Tuesday, the EU envoy stated that “it is time for Armenia to ratify the Istanbul Convention.”
“Do you think it’s time to modernize the Armenian military, change the top negotiator, acquire new weapons and reinforce the frontline?” he wrote on Facebook, addressing the Armenian people.
“Do you think it’s time for the EU to respond to Azerbaijani provocations and impose sanctions on Aliyev? Do you think it’s time to release Armenian prisoners of war or drive the Azerbaijani troops out of Armenia? Then you must be mistaken, because, according to Ms. Wiktorin, it’s time for Armenia to ratify the Istanbul Convention,” the politician retorted.
