Armenian athletes win 16 gold medals at Powerlifting World Cup, set records
The Armenian team has earned 16 gold medals at the XPC Powerlifting World Cup 2022 in Siedlce, Poland, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports reported on Wednesday.
Overall, 18 athletes represented Armenia at the junior, youth and adult divisions of the championship held from 24-27 November.
Ara Khachatryan (90 kg) from Gyumri became the absolute champion among adults, setting a world record, while Ashot Petrosyan (90 kg) was the absolute winner of the junior completion.
Gevorg Aleksanyan (100kg), Hayk Afyan (100kg) and Makar Tamrazyan (67,5 kg) also triumphed in the adults’ tournament, setting European records.
Armen Nikoghosyan (56kg) and Melsik Martirosyan (60kg) won in the junior division and set European records.
Edgar Badalyan (60kg), Narek Tamrazyan (67,5kg), Kamo Yeghoyan (75kg), Artyom Soloyan (90kg), Gor Hovhannisyan (100kg), Karen Petrosyan (110kg), Artavazd Arakelyan (125kg) and Aram Margaryan (125kg) claimed gold in their weight classes.
In the women's competition, Zhanna Shahnazaryan, a police major, became a four-time world champion.
Armenia took the first place in the team competition.
The Powerlifting World Cup brought together around 600 athletes from 15 countries.
