Armenia opens criminal probe after soldier wounded by Azeri gunfire
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has launched a criminal investigation into the wounding of an Armenian soldier by Azerbaijani gunfire on Tuesday.
The serviceman, identified by his initials as A.Z., was injured after Azerbaijani forces opened fire at his military post in the eastern border section at around 5:50 pm.
Criminal proceedings were initiated under Article 44-155 of Armenia’s Criminal Code (attempted murder out of motives of national, racial or religious hatred), the Investigative Committee said on Wednesday.
A preliminary probe is underway.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Defense Ministry said the soldier’s injuries were not life-threatening.
