YSU professor slams parliament majority for rejection of Artsakh resolution
Menua Soghomonyan, a political science professor at Yerevan State University (YSU) and a member of the opposition 5165 movement, took to Facebook on Friday to denounce the rejection of an opposition resolution on Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) by the pro-government majority in the Armenian parliament.
MPs representing the ruling Civil Contract party boycotted the parliament vote on the draft statement earlier on Friday. The opposition claimed the parliament majority objected to its reference to the “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic”, urging to replace it with the “Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh”.
“The Civil Contract MPs proposed to replace the “Artsakh Republic” with the “Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians” in the draft resolution. Meanwhile, there are people teaching the Armenian cause among them,” Soghomonyan wrote.
