12 Armenian weightlifters to compete at World Championships in Colombia
Twelve Armenian weightlifters are set to compete at the World Weightlifting Championships 2022 which kicked off in Bogota, Colombia, on Monday, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports reported on Tuesday.
The Armenian team includes Izabella Yaylyan (59 kg), Andranik Karapetyan (89 kg), Vardan Manukyan (89 kg), Hakob Mkrtchyan (96 kg), Davit Hovhannisyan (96 kg), Milena Khachatryan (76 kg), Milena Khachatryan (76 kg), Samvel Gasparyan (102 kg), Liana Gyurjian (81 kg), Hripsime Khurshudyan (87 kg), Varazdat Lalayan and Simon Martirosyan (+109 kg).
The world championships are the first in the series of qualifying events for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The weightlifters competing in the 10 Olympic weightlifting categories (five men and five women) will be able to accumulate crucial Olympic Qualification Ranking (OQR) points based on their performances at the world championships, the official website of the Olympics revealed.
