Parliament speaker: Armenia opposes setup of Azeri checkpoint on road to Artsakh
Armenia opposes the possible setup of an Azerbaijani checkpoint on the Lachin corridor connecting Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to Armenia, the parliament speaker told reporters on Wednesday.
“Armenia strongly disapproves it. Let's not forget that the Lachin corridor is under the control of Russian peacekeepers and is within their responsibility zone," Alen Simonyan said, adding Armenia is working with Russia on the matter.
"It’s about an area of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers,” he reiterated.
Also, Simonyan rejected the criticism that the Armenian government “has abandoned” Artsakh.
“I think I don't have to recall all the measures that have been taken so far in order to confirm once again that Armenia has never abandoned Artsakh and will not do so," Simonyan noted.
