Armenia's Mariam Mkrtchyan named sole winner of youth chess tournament
Armenian chess player Mariam Mkrtchyan has emerged as the sole winner of the girls’ competition at "The Game has begun!", a youth chess tournament held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, from 29 November to 7 December.
Mkrtchyan scored 7 out of 9 to win the championship, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports reported on Thursday.
In the boys’ event, Armenia’s Shant Sargsyan finished third with 5 points. An ethnic Armenian player representing Russia, Rudik Makaryan, came in second with 5.5 points.
