Councilor urges fresh elections in Armenian community
The leader of the Homeland faction in the City Council of Armenia’s Vanadzor community, Vahe Dokhoyan, has called for fresh local elections.
Municipal elections were held in Vanadzor on December 5, 2021. A bloc led by incumbent Mayor Mamikon Aslanyan won the elections, but he was arrested shortly afterwards for alleged abuse of office.
“It's been almost a year that a local government has not been formed in the Vanadzor community, because the leader of the faction that won majority is imprisoned amid political persecution against him,” Dokhoyan wrote on Facebook on Friday.
“As a result of these illegalities, there has been a political and management crisis in Vanadzor for a long time,” he said.
Dokhoyan urged all the local council factions to adopt a joint decision on the conduct of fresh elections to the Vanadzor City Council as soon as possible and approve the draft budget of the community for 2023.
