Russia ready to promote peace deal between Armenia, Azerbaijan
Russia is ready to support the preparation of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Fourth CIS Department, Denis Gonchar, told TASS on Saturday.
“We are ready to further support by all means the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the preparation of a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan, including through the arrangement of high-level trilateral meetings in Russia. These two extremely sensitive issues for both sides require a search for mutually-acceptable and long-term solutions,” he said.
The Russian diplomat added that disclosing details of the negotiations or discussing the positions of the sides "is not always useful".
“We are also preparing meetings between the societies and expert communities of the two countries. This important direction of the joint efforts is aimed at contributing to an atmosphere of trust between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Gonchar noted.
