Azerbaijanis not allowed into occupied Artsakh regions without special permit, expert says
The Azerbaijanis are not allowed to enter the occupied territories of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) without a special permit from the authorities in Baku, Armenian information security expert Karen Vrtanesyan claims.
His comments came after a group of Azerbaijanis blocked the sole road connecting Artsakh to Armenia outside the town of Shushi on ostensibly environmental grounds on Monday morning.
“Unofficial Azerbaijani reports suggest new groups are being sent to support those blocking the [Artsakh-Armenia] road,” he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
“Needless to say that the talks about the “spontaneous” blockage are utter nonsense. The Azerbaijanis are not allowed into areas occupied by Artsakh without a special permit from the regime in Baku. Thus, had it not been for a direct order from the country’s authorities, they would not have been able to enter even Fizuli, let alone reach Shushi,” Vrtanesyan said.
